Overview of the position:

The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth is hiring! Founded in 2009, the CFSY works to ban juvenile life without parole in the United States, and create opportunities for those directly impacted by extreme sentencing to thrive and lead. The Finance & Benefits Manager provides key support to the Managing Director, Finance & Compliance and the Operations team, fulfilling core responsibilities to ensure smooth and effective implementation of each department’s goals and objectives. 

The Finance & Benefits Manager’s primary responsibilities include conducting operational bookkeepinging tasks, liaising with the CFSY’s accountants, and managing regular processes such as consultant payments, staff reimbursements, and timesheets. This position may be remote. The Finance & Benefits Manager reports to the Managing Director, Finance & Compliance and is a member of the Operations Team.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Finance

  • Conduct operational accounting tasks, including processing approved payments, collecting invoices, and overseeing Quickbooks accuracy;
  • Liaise with Managing Director, Finance & Compliance, program associates, and external accountant to ensure timely monthly closing and accuracy in QuickBooks entry and corresponding documentation;
  • Support Managing Director, Finance & Compliance and Senior Development Manager, Grants in preparing regular internal and external financial reports; 
  • Manage payment disbursement processes, including staff reimbursements and per diem, vendor and consultant contracts and payments, and direct payments to directly impacted community members and other consultants. Review paperwork for accuracy and track payment status;
  • Keep organized and complete filing records of contracts, receipts, deposits, and check payments, as well as any other required documentation for restricted income;
  • Work closely with the Managing Director, Finance & Compliance to implement and maintain systems to ensure aligned documentation and accurate reporting;
  • Liaise with tax agencies and other governmental authorities; 
  • Ensure compliance with organizational internal and financial controls; and,
  • Assist with the annual audit.

 

Benefits

  • Manage benefits administration, including benefits enrollments for staff, answering questions from staff regarding their benefits, liaising with benefits broker, and managing employee records of benefits enrollments, terms, and/or other changes;
  • Oversee timely and accurate completion and collection of timesheets and maintain accurate records of PTO;
  • Support Managing Directors with onboarding, including state tax registrations if needed, new hire documentation, communicating available benefits, and providing training around CFSY timesheets and staff reimbursement requests;
  • Sit at cross-functional tables that are relevant to work area (i.e., People & Culture);
  • Support a variety of department-specific and organization-wide events.

Fulfill other tasks and responsibilities as needed to support a growing organization.

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of related Finance and/or Benefits administration experience
    • Organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask;
    • Demonstrated organizational and computer literacy (Google Apps, Microsoft Office, QuickBooks or other bookkeeping software);
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work effectively with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and support complex projects and tasks, with multiple stakeholders, goals, timelines and deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Location and Travel

The CFSY’s headquarters are in Washington, DC, with many staff working remotely throughout the country. The Finance & Benefits Manager can work remotely or from the CFSY office in Washington. In accordance with CFSY internal policies, all required home-office technology, equipment and supplies, and all business related travel will be paid for by the CFSY.

Compensation, Benefits, and Culture:

The salary range for this position starts at $75,000 and is commensurate with experience. The CFSY also offers a generous benefits package, including:

  • Four weeks of paid vacation yearly, officewide closure from Dec. 25-Jan. 1, and accrued sick time;
